    2 Signal Regiment

    211 Signal Squadron

Recent History

211 Signal Squadron, 2 Signal Regiment, CMI, is based at Boekenhoutkloof Military Base, 50 km North of Pretoria.

Before the restructuring in the SANDF in 1996 the unit was known as 229 Signal Squadron. Most of the "old" signalers are sure to know 229 Signal Squadron, as the squadron's main role is operational deployment. They've been everywhere, done
everything and have the T-shirts to prove it!

211 Signal were deployed to establish satellite- and microwave telecommunication during
Airborne Africa 2001. These facilities were successfully applied as a direct back-link to Army HQ with telephone and IT facilities. The aim of the deployment was to test effective communication capability for application use to the DRC. In a sense the unit can be regarded as the Telkom of the SANDF.

The specialist team involved at Airborne Africa consisted of the following members:

 • Capt P.G. Herbst • Staff-sergeant J.L. Lange • Staff-sergeant J.A. Koch

Thank you to Staff-sergeant Jean Koch for the info and pictures *
