For many years there had been a dream...

A dream to build bridges, to foster goodwill and friendship and to strengthen the bond amongst the paratroopers of the world;

to benchmark South Africa & Africa's airborne combat capability in an unique military endurance competition. The first of its kind - ever!

A competition in which the severe challenges airborne soldiers face in operational conditions were to be equaled and overcome.

It was to compare the best airborne forces of the world.

The camaraderie between airborne soldiers, irrespective of nationality, has always been  a bond respected by all - but, WHO IS THE BEST?

This question was about to be answered and a dream became harsh reality through

Airborne Africa 2001

when the elite of 12 countries met under some of the most severe conditions Africa and the world has to offer.

African Countries:

• Botswana • Ghana • MalawiSwaziland • Tanzania • RSA (Host)

Outside Africa:

• Belgium • France • Jordan • Netherlands • United Kingdom • USA

Airborne Africa is the brainchild of WO1 Koos Moorcroft, Sergeant Major of the SANDF Army - a dream he realised on April 1st 2001.
